Daphnie Yang, Creator of HIIT IT! On Having A Positive Mindset, Running, and Fitness

Are you ready to feel empowered, inspired, motivated?  Today’s guest is all about making you feel good, bringing you joy, and powering you with the strength and confidence you need to live your best life!

From her popular fitness class, HIIT IT!, and her Power Hour networking events to her inspiring Instagram feed @Definedbydaphnie, and her podcast Just One More!, you are definitely going to love this conversation with fitness entrepreneur, innovator, and founder, Daphnie Yang.

Daphnie turned her love of dance, passion for running, talent for performing and experience in personal training into a life and career she loves with the launch of her wildly popular fitness class, HIIT IT!, which burst onto the fitness scene in October 2013. What began as a group workout with a few clients in Central Park has grown into the ultimate high intensity interval training workout.

On today’s episode we talk about how running transformed her life, where her journey with dance and fitness began, the narrative she created that almost prevented her from building her brand, having a positive mindset, and of course her sweat-drenching, fun-infused workout, HIIT IT! The one hour, 800 calorie burning workout she created that blasts body fat, torches calories, sculpts lean muscle mass, strengthens the core, skyrockets the metabolism and improves cardiovascular endurance.

Empowered with a BFA in Dance from NYU in 2007, multiple International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) Certifications in Personal Training, Pre and Post Natal Training, Marathon Coaching and Nutrition Counseling, Daphnie has motivated hundreds of people to reduce body fat, sculpt lean muscle mass, and run marathons, but most importantly, she has helped countless people achieve balance and wellness in their day to day lives. HIIT IT! classes are taught at Athleta Flatiron and Primary in NYC. Daphnie currently trains clients six days a week at her gym space in downtown Manhattan or on-site at clients homes and corporate offices.  To learn more, head over to her website, www.daphnieyang.com or follow her on social @definedbydaphnie, @powerhournyc, @hiititnyc or @justonemorepod.

Denise Lee, CEO + Founder, Alala, On Fashion, Fitness and Female Empowerment

Denise Lee always knew she wanted to be an entrepreneur. Growing up in Hong Kong, she moved to NYC to go to NYU Stern and pursue her dreams. But it wasn’t until she started training for her first triathlon in 2012 that she had her “aha” moment. As an avid athlete, she couldn’t find any activewear brand that offered the effortless cool styles of the contemporary designers she loved. Denise found the market lacking in a sense of creativity. Flash forward to 2014, she launched Alala. Today the brand is one of the leading modern activewear brands, providing women with sophisticated style, designs and silhouettes that are chic, comfortable, and workout ready!

On today’s episode, Denise and I sync up about where Alala began, her personal and brand mission, Alala’s very cool and forward thinking design collaborations and partnerships, and the workouts that fuel her for success.

Alala was one of the premier brands on the athleisure landscape catering to the studio going, class loving fitness crowd while appealing to women who wanted comfortable stylish active wear to wear to the office or lounge at home, five years later they continue to innovate. Alala is now carried in over 100 major retailers including Bloomingdales and Neiman Marcus, and it has been seen on celebs Ashley Grahm, Reese Witherspoon, Naomi Watts, and Jessica Alba. But these celebrities are not the only stars wearing Alala, it’s the strong and inspiring women around the country that really shine for Alala and Denise Lee!

Kurt Spenser, CMO + Co-Founder, ROKA, On The World’s Fastest Wetsuit, Triathlon + The Future of Athletic Performance Eyewear

In 2010, former Stanford University swim team co-captains, All-American swimmers Rob Canales and Kurt Spenser decided it would be a great idea to do an Ironman 70.3 in Austin as a fun way to reconnect and get back in shape after nearly a decade had gone by from their days of competitive swimming. This race was the launching point for how the world’s fastest wetsuit was created and marked the beginning of the game-changing athletic performance brand, ROKA.

On this episode, ROKA CMO + Co-Founder, Kurt Spenser, shares the story of how his triathlon experience and the challenges on the course led to the innovation and design of the brands globally renowned wetsuits and launch of ROKA in 2013.

Kurt and Marni sync up about: the initial prototype wetsuit that was created in Co-Founder, Rob Canales garage; pro-triathlete, Jesse Thomas’s winning results that put the wetsuit on the triathlon radar; the brands expansion to offer award winning performance sunglasses, a new collection of prescription eyewear, The Austin Collection, goggles, and gear all with paradigm shifting design; and the workout routine that is currently fueling Kurt for success!

Since the brands inception, ROKA athletes have won over a dozen world titles and have been instrumental in the design and development of an unprecedented collection of patented and award-winning products. In 2016, ROKA was proud to send 18 athletes to the Rio Olympics, taking home Gold and Bronze.  In PyeongChang, ROKA continued the tradition, taking home Olympic Gold and Bronze in their Advanced Performance eyewear.  Including podcast guest and Olympic Gold Medalist, triathlete and runner, Gwen Jorgensen. ROKA’s mission is to unlock human potential. To equip, empower, inspire and ignite. ROKA serves those who seek to redefine the standard, to push themselves to the limit – whatever and wherever that may be. ROKA products are available worldwide and through select retailers.  And they have a new pop-up in Austin, if you live nearby!

ROKA is offering 20% off with the exception of their optical collection. Use the code MARNI (not case sensitive) on their website in the US Store only, no other discounts apply, at www.roka.com.

Zach Adelman, CEO+ Founder, Navitas Organics, On CBD, Maca and the Superfoods In Between!

Pursuing his passion and doing what he loves is how Zach Adelman has been living most of his life from following the Grateful Dead to uprooting his life and work to Whistler so he could Ski every day.  It’s only natural that when a friend introduced him to the powerful Incan superfood, Maca,  and he experienced the healthy benefits of this powerful ingredient, he developed a new passion which fueled the next chapter of his life. Zach’s curiosity about ancient cultures and traditional foods led to a special collaboration with a small farmer cooperative in Peru and  Navitas Organics® began.

The Canadian born and raised, Peruvian inspired, Marin County resident’s journey into wellness was organic.

From Maca and Cacao to CBD and Hemp and the superfoods in between, Zach Adelman and his company, Navitas Organics®, have been pioneers on the wellness scene since launching in 2003 and continue to innovate and grow. The company offers a wide range of nourishing foods used for baking, cooking, smoothie making and ready to pop-in-your-mouth snacking to empower a modern, nutritious lifestyle. The wellness products include single ingredients, snack foods, nutritional blends and bars.

Just this week they are launching a line of CBD infused nutrient dense ready to drink wellness shots with Acai , Matcha, turmeric, and goji for wellness needs: calm, focus, restore, bliss, and a line of ready to mix, (non-dairy) Superfood Lattes including Matcha, Cacao, and Tumeric.

On this episode, Zach + Marni  talk about where and how Navitas Organics® began, his entrepreneurial wellness journey, what it was like pioneering a growing his business, the robust superfoods that are essential to Navitas Organics®, his wonderful family and the workouts that fuel him for success.

Navitas Organics® is a premium organic superfood company offering the best quality, plant-based and superfood ingredients and snacks. Most Navitas Organics® products are USDA certified organic, non-GMO and contain health benefits that have been celebrated for generations – handled with purpose and care to preserve their vital superfood nutrients.

I have been mixing their plant-based superfoods into my smoothies for years.  I love their Cacao, Camu Camu, Hemp Protein and essential superfood blends which I use daily for protein and greens, post-workout.

If you are part of the Marni on the Move influencer network or recently attended our LIVE Marni on the Move summit, Well Intentioned, January 2019, you probably received a single serve sample of their essential superfood blends and Cacao  and are well aware of these delicious products and their health benefits.

Arshad Bahl, CEO + Founder Amrita: On Turning Tragedy Into Triumph

Arshad Bahl is the Founder + CEO of Amrita Foods,  the protein and energy bars that fuel my training and everyday life! His path to entrepreneurship was organic, literally and figuratively, and incredibly inspiring. He spent the first part of his career working in  corporate consulting and marketing, but when his son was diagnosed with autism and severe gastrointestinal issues at the age of two, his life and career were changed forvever. Arshad and his wife did a ton of research and immediately started their son on an aggressive gluten-free and dairy-free nutrition program. The nutritional changes helped heal his gastrointestinal issues, which allowed for better absorption of nutrition, which in turn made it easier for him to focus on other necessary therapies. Within three years, their son was in a mainstream classroom and was doing well both academically and socially.

After his son’s nutritional changes and gastrointestinal recovery, Arshad became convinced that plant-based nutrition was the right approach for managing inflammation. The significance of reducing one’s allergen load (such as consumption of gluten, dairy, nuts, soy, oils, preservatives, and chemical-containing non-organic foods) to help the body recover from daily stresses became apparent. Arshad became dedicated to developing snacks free of these damaging ingredients. In 2012, Amrita was officially launched.  What began as a few pop-ups starting at farmers markets got picked up by Whole Foods and today is in over 1000 doors nationwide.

Arshad is  an incredibly savvy founder and entrepreneur with a seriously awesome product. The protein and energy bars are delicious and packed with superfoods and healthy ingredients like Quinoa, Chia Seeds Dates Coconut Oil Sea Salt Maple Syrop, Cranberries, blueberries and more. They are dairy-free, gluten free, and vegan .

On today’s episode, Arshad and Marni talk about where his entrepreneurial journey began, food as medicine, healthy fueling for athletics and life, and he shares some great career and business insight and wisdom on building a brand, direct to consumers sales, influencer marketing and more.

LIVE from NYC: How To Adopt An Athletic Mindset For Life, Career, + Training with Andia Winslow, Andrew Kalley, Louis Sagar, and Murray Hidary

Today’s episode is all about mindset and intentions across athleticism, career, fitness, and wellness.  You will hear from former podcast guests (on new topics) including top professional and elite athletes, Andia Winslow and Andrew Kalley, and entreprenurs and founders Murray Hidary and Louis Sagar and learn how they  leveraged thier athletic mindset to empower them with the perseverence, focus, and dedication to succeed in their career, the strenth and flexibility to power through severe life illnesses and overcome family loss.  From triathlon, golf and running to CBD, music, and meditation you will be inspired and motivated to get started on your next athletic or entreprenurial endeavor.

This was the first Marni on the Move LIVE panel which took place at world renowned athletic complex and NYC gym, Chelsea Piers Fitness.Panel guests include:Professional Athlete-Golfer and Runner, Andia Winslow, who has been building her career as a successful on-air personality and voice over talent over the past several years, Andrew Kalley, an winning Elite Athlete, triathlon coach and personal trainer at Chelsea Piers Fitness with his own portfolio of clients at Kalley Fitness, Louis Sager, the CEO of The Alchemist’s Kitchen , and Murray Hidary, piianist, entrepreneur, creator of MindTravel, a musical meditation and experience.

It truly was a magical evening. We were on the deck outside, overlooking the Hudson. The event began with the panel, where listeners got to experience first-hand,, what it was like to be part of the podcast with digital wireless headsets almost as if they were in the room where it happens, thanks to Murray Hidary of MindTravel. Following the panel, Chelsea Piers Fitness talented and popular yoga teacher, Danielle Prager led a vinyasa style yoga class to the music of MindTravel and Murray continued to play trugh savasana into the night.

While all of this sounds wonderful and amazing, the episode audio is a little rough at first. Like a true entrepreneur, I had a vision and took a big risk, my first time recording a live event at this venue and really set the barre high. We were outside, recording digitally, no wires, with some technical interference and signals and occasional helicopters in the background.  My audio engineers are terrific. But it’s not the same as being in the studio so I wanted to prepare you for a few glitches here and there. However, it’s a really inspiring and empowering conversation and can maybe plant some seeds for you as we move into the New Year!
