George Tenedios, CEO + Co-Founder, Fresh&Co, On Pioneering A Fresh, Local, and Seasonal Approach To Fast Casual, The Restaurant Business, and Long Island’s North Fork

The restaurant business is in his DNA! Born and raised in New Jersey, spending summers on Long Island’s North Fork and visiting relatives in Greece, today’s guest, George Tenedios,  CEO + Co-Founder of Fresh&Co, was born into a family of  restauranteurs. From the young age of 8, George Tenedios was accompanying his father to work on weekends. As a teenager, he began working with his father at Café Metro, the family’s famous NYC fast casual restaurant founded in 1984 with five locations today. In 2007, after a trip to the west coast. George returned inspired by the California food scene and culture and recognized a need in NYC for healthy fast casual cuisine.  The idea to offer a new healthier spin and fresh perspective on the already successful fast casual business model was organic and the seed for Fresh&Co was planted. The restaurant officially opened in 2010 with one location and has grown to 19 locations in NYC over the past 8 years. They recently launched a Franchise Division and are partnering to develop locations in Westchester and Southern Florida, and they have a 36 acre farm on the North Fork of Long Island.

Fresh&Co offers chef inspired recipes, locally sourced ingredients and seasonal menus that offer a terrific array of vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free items. You will also discover some of Fresh&Co’s delicious menu items from their Impossible Foods Plant Based Meatballs to Paninis, Grain Bowls, Market Table hot foods, and snacks.

Arshad Bahl, CEO + Founder Amrita: On Turning Tragedy Into Triumph

Arshad Bahl is the Founder + CEO of Amrita Foods,  the protein and energy bars that fuel my training and everyday life! His path to entrepreneurship was organic, literally and figuratively, and incredibly inspiring. He spent the first part of his career working in  corporate consulting and marketing, but when his son was diagnosed with autism and severe gastrointestinal issues at the age of two, his life and career were changed forvever. Arshad and his wife did a ton of research and immediately started their son on an aggressive gluten-free and dairy-free nutrition program. The nutritional changes helped heal his gastrointestinal issues, which allowed for better absorption of nutrition, which in turn made it easier for him to focus on other necessary therapies. Within three years, their son was in a mainstream classroom and was doing well both academically and socially.

After his son’s nutritional changes and gastrointestinal recovery, Arshad became convinced that plant-based nutrition was the right approach for managing inflammation. The significance of reducing one’s allergen load (such as consumption of gluten, dairy, nuts, soy, oils, preservatives, and chemical-containing non-organic foods) to help the body recover from daily stresses became apparent. Arshad became dedicated to developing snacks free of these damaging ingredients. In 2012, Amrita was officially launched.  What began as a few pop-ups starting at farmers markets got picked up by Whole Foods and today is in over 1000 doors nationwide.

Arshad is  an incredibly savvy founder and entrepreneur with a seriously awesome product.
