FLASHBACK FRIDAY: Glendy Yeung: Energy Healing + Vibrational Wellness

Flashback Friday: We are bringing you conversations from the archives of Marni on the Move, every Friday!

Fueled by yoga and meditation, Glendy Yeung is a well-known energy healer, who has pioneered a career in Vibrational Wellness. Her expertise and practice encompass the esoteric healing modalities of Sound Meditation, Flower Essences, Pranic Healing, Yantra, Crystals and more.  On this episode, Glendy and I talk about the many modalities of energetic healing across vibrational wellness, from Sound meditation and soul to soul healing to Pranic Facelifts, Facial and Energy Botox, how you could begin an Energetic hygiene routine, Pranic Weight Loss + Body Sculpting, and more.

Having spent nearly the entire first decade of her career as a Neuroscientist, the next decade in Cyber Security and Corporate America, Glendy is no stranger to stress, high pressure environments, or corporate politics. Her exploration, research and experience with energy healing and yoga began as a personal practice, 20 years ago, to help her find balance, grounding and rejuvenation in her own life. She has been learning, researching, and discovering ever since.

Like all great entrepreneurs and founders, once you find what you truly love, and embrace your natural talents, you want to share it with the world and that how a great business begins. In 2017, Glendy embarked upon her first entrepreneurial endeavor with the launch of her vibrational wellness and healing namesake company, Glendy Yeung. Empowered by her years of experience, portfolio of healing tools, and studies of energy over the human biological and emotional systems, Glendy has been orchestrating group and individual healing sessions around the globe.

Kevin Rutherford, CEO of Nuun, On Movement, Community & Hydration You Can Feel

Last week was an action packed, politically charged week around the globe, with good reason, Black Lives Matter. We all need to stand up, take action, and put an end to racism, inequality and injustice in the world.  I did not post my weekly episodes out of respect, to make space for the important conversations and voices that needed to be heard.  I am happy to be back with you this week, and while I am not moving on, I am moving forward with great guests for you to discover this summer.

On this episode, I sync up with Kevin Rutherford, a runner, triathlete, and Chief Eternal Optimist of Nuun, the sports hydration electrolyte tablets that I have been adding to my water for racing and training for nearly a decade. As we head into summer months, spending more time outdoors, hydration and electrolyte replacement is so important. Nuun is my go to and they have lots of great flavors- my fave Strawberry Lemonade. Kevin and I sync up about where his journey into endurance sports began, his career trajectory that brought him to Nuun and how the brand has grown and expanded over the years. Nuun began on the endurance sports scene, as the first company to separate electrolyte replacement from carbohydrates.  It is a healthy, hydrating beverage without all of the extra sugar and additives. Since the brands inception, they have expanded their product line from sports hydration to vitamins, immune system boosters and more. Nuun has become a “must-have” product for more and more people around the globe.

Laya and her Mother turned to homemade bone broth to help her reduce inflammation and get the nutrients she needed into her body to help her heal.  It was a true game changer for her health and career.

On today’s episode I sync up with Laya about her passion for choreography and dance, her journey from Detroit to NYC, pursuing her dream career, building a business with her mom, how her battle with Crohn’s Disease inspired innovation, the healing power of bone broth and the delicious nutrient dense ingredients in BrothMasters, and her philosophy around saying YES!

Shawn Buckley is Disrupting The Pet Food Industry, Helping Our Dogs + Cats Live Longer and Healthier Lives

When today’s guest, Shawn Buckley, went to his local pet store to pick up his dogs favorite chicken kibble, only to find it was sold out, he opted for the lamb kibble instead. Upon checkout he noticed they were the same price, which he thought was odd. As he looked at the ingredients and did more research, he was shocked to learn what he was actually feeding his dog.  And so it began…

Shawn Buckley is the Founder of JustFoodForDogs, the dog and cat food brand that has disrupted the $30.5 billion pet food industry.  They are the first pet food brand to create fresh food for pets from human grade, USDA human certified ingredients, in open-to-the-public kitchens, and the only brand on the market proven healthy by multiple independent university studies.  JustFoodForDogs has a team of in-house veterinarians and nutritionists that formulate the meals utilizing only fresh, whole food ingredients USDA/FDA certified for human consumption, in recipes nutritionally balanced for dogs as well as cats.

When they launched in 2010, they started a movement that continues to grow today. The company, now serves more than 50 million fresh meals annually.  Today, JustFoodForDogs has nine of its signature kitchens open to the public in CA, NY and WA with another under construction in Chicago, as well as more than 200 of its unique Pantries.  In July 2018,  JustFoodForDogs  signed a deal to build kitchens and pantries inside hundreds of Petco stores nationwide along with offering the company’s products on the Petco website.

On this episode, I sync up with Shawn about where it all began, the inspiration for the company, how he the built a team of incredible executives, veterinarians, and nutritionists. We talk about the workouts that fuel Shawn for success, the future of JustFoodForDogs and more.

Anne Mahlum On Running With Purpose: From Building The Fastest Growing Boutique Fitness Company To Training For Her Next Marathon

Since the age of 16, Anne Mahlum has logged thousands of miles running with purpose! Running for athleticism, confidence, empowerment, and of course for fun with 12 Marathons in the books. She is also running and has built two incredibly successful companies. Anne Mahlum is the Founder, Owner and CEO of [solidcore], one of the fastest-growing boutique fitness companies, which she founded in Washington, DC in 2013. There are now more than 57 locations nationwide and over 100,000 clients, including Michelle Obama. Prior to [solidcore], Anne founded of Back on My Feet, a non-profit organization she built in Philadelphia in 2007, that uses the power of running to change the way those experiencing homelessness see themselves so they can make real change in their lives.

Anne has been on track for success in all aspects of her life for over a decade but this summer a devastatingly serious Jet Skiing accident, resulting in a compound femur fracture, temporarily set her back. And I say temporarily because within three weeks of being in the hospital and the accident she signed up for the United Airlines Rock ‘N’ Roll Washington DC Marathon taking place on March 28th, 2020. Her boyfriend and friends offered to run with her and when Lululemon caught wind of her running comeback, they offered to pitch in and pay for 10 spots for individuals that wanted to run, who were also facing challenges and adversity joining in the [solidcore] mission, Stronger Together. [solidcore] is now sponsoring 30 spots and over 250 people have signed up for the half or full as part of the [solidcore] Team.

On this episode, Marni syncs up with Anne about her long standing relationship with running and how this incredible sport weathered her through challenges and successes in life, the inspiration behind [solidcore] and Back on My Feet, she shares what happened in her accident this summer and how she has once again turned to running to help mentally and physically get her back on her feet. It’s a super inspiring and fun conversation.

[solidcore] is offering $5 off an intro NYC 3 Pack to all of our listeners. Just use the code ONTHEMOVE5 upon checkout and get your sweat on!

Chris Clearfield On Why Systems Fail: From Oil Spills To Overcooked Holiday Meals + The Simple Solutions You Can Employ, Whether You Are Managing A Team Or Your Family’s Morning Routine

It all began when derivatives trader and commercially licensed airline pilot, Chris Clearfield, started seeing parallels between the financial crisis and aviation accidents all throughout his career.  In 2010, when the Deepwater Horizon Rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, the idea for his book, Meltdown, was sparked. Since then Chris has been researching and comparing major catastrophes around the world. Meltdown offers a groundbreaking take on how complexity causes failure in all kinds of modern systems — from social media to air travel—this practical and entertaining book reveals how we can prevent meltdowns in business and life.

Chris Clearfield is the Co-Author (with Andras Tilcsik) of Meltdown: What Plane Crashes, Oil Spills, and Dumb Business Decisions Can Teach us About How To Succeed at Work and Home. This book is all about why our systems fail and what we can do about it.  It’s definitely a business book however, you can absolutely apply the principles to family, fitness, training and life.

Chris was in town a few months ago, visiting from Seattle. We went for a run then recorded the podcast with today’s special co-host, Lori Mazor.  You may know Lori from way back when, episode one. She is my partner in life and racing. Lori connected everyone for the podcast and is a huge fan of the book and has direct experience using some of the principles within.

In the book, Chris and Andras weave together cutting edge social science with riveting stories that take us from the front lines of the Volkswagon scandal to backstage at the Oscars, and from deep beneath the Gulf of Mexico to the top of Mount Everest. They explain how the increasing complexities of our systems create conditions ripe for failure and why our brains can’t keep up. Chris and Andras highlight the paradox of progress: while modern systems have given us new capabilities, they’ve become vulnerable to surprising meltdowns—and even corruption and misconduct.

Chris shares many of these stories and examples on today’s episode but we also explore his philosophy thru the lens of triathlon and family. Meltdown by Chris Clearfield and András Tilcsik is now available in paperback and of course, as an audiobook, which I downloaded and listened to on Audible
