Amy Sewell is an award-winning documentarian and filmmaker, entrepreneur, and author of the new novel, Pocket8s, a page turning psychothriller, and thought provoking Winter Read.  You may have seen her famous documentary  MAD HOT BALLROOM on Showtime, read her book, She’s Out There! The Next Generation of Presidential Candidates (LifeTime Media, 2009), or seen her documentary, Whats Your Point Honey, but now she is shifting gears and expanding her creative repetoire. We talk about her new novel, why she picked the topics of euthanasia and poker as the theme, her pivot from non-fiction and documentaries to writing fiction, some great advice for creators and entrepreneurs, and the exercise and wellness that fuel her for success.

210: Physical Equilibrium Co-Owner, Sara Dimmick, On Building A Strong Exercise Foundation & Setting Realistic, Achievable Fitness Goals

Sara Dimmick is the Founder and co-partner of Physical Equilibrium. New York City’s premier boutique gym, fitness center offering personal training, nutrition, triathlon and run coaching, post-rehabilitation and therapeutic services.

Sara shares where her journey into personal training and entrepreneurship began. We talk about her early roots in dance, how this career path brought her to the Big Apple after college and how it positioned her for success in training clients across many other realms of exercise and fitness. We touch upon the importance of heavy lifting and strength training and how Sara and the team at Physical Equilibrium focus on designing effective and safe gym programs for clients to excel and stay injury-free. Sara shares how the gym specializes in post rehabilitation fitness and works closely with physiatrists, physical therapists, chiropractors, and other medical professionals to bridge the gap between therapy and active lifestyle.

Of course we talk triathlon, swimming and marathoning. And, I get the scoop on Sara’s coaching philosophy, and what races she is tentatively planning to do this summer. As a personal trainer, running and tri coach, mom to an adorable seven year old son, business co-owner and triathlete, Sara has a busy schedule, but she always makes time to workout, even if it’s just 30 minutes.

209: TrainingPeaks Co-Founder, Dirk Friel Talks Ski Mountaineering, Cycling, & Brand Growth

Dirk Friel is the Co-Founder of TrainingPeaks, the Host of the CoachCast Podcast, he is the U.S. Ski Mountaineering 2020 Masters Champ and before that, he was a Pro-Cyclist!

TrainingPeaks is one of my favorite training tools! I definitely mention it in most athlete centric conversations on the podcast. If you are not familiar, it is the ultimate training tool and digital platform for athletes and coaches to plan their training, set goals, measure and track data and progress. It’s compatible with over 100 fitness apps and devices including Garmin, Strava, Apple watch, Zwift, and so much more. They also have a great database of training programs for many sports and athletes of all levels including running, triathlon and cycling.

This is Dirks second time on the Marni on The Move podcast. We also caught up back on episode 117. Today, Dirk and I sync up about what’s new at Training Peaks, where it began, and how it has grown, We talk  about the training currently fueling him for success as he is gearing up for another season of Ski Mountaineering this winter. We talk about where he is at with his cycling, and since he spends a good amount of time outdoors training, I get some terrific layering tips and advice for cycling and running!

Frankie Ruiz  is the Chief Running Officer at Life Time, Co-Creator of The Life Time Miami Marathon, and Co-Founder of Baptist Health Brickell Run Club, the world’s largest weekly free run club, powered by Nike! In addition, Frankie is also the City of Miami’s Chief Wellness Officer and also coaches Cross Country at Belen High School, where he has lead the team to 12 State Championships and 1 SE National Regional Nike NXN Title.

On the Marni On The Move podcast today, Frankie and I sync up about where his passion for running began, what he continues to love about the sport, and how just two decades ago, he turned his passion into his career!  2022 is the 20 year anniversary of the iconic Miami Marathon.  I get the story on how it started and how it has grown. Frankie shares insight into both the Marathon and Half Marathon race course and key things runners should know about each distance. We talk race day hydration, nutrition, and typical race day temperatures. Frankie also offers ideas on where to stay. I also get the scoop on how, when and why he started the Baptist Health Brickell Run Club and how this super fun, very social Tuesday night run club has evolved over the years.  Of course I sync up with Frankie about the exercise and wellness currently fueling him for success and he shares some of the key learnings he takes from the sport to everyday life.
