Today we are bringing you the incredble story of Age Group triathletes, Hillary & Tom Williams, thanks to IRONMAN. Last summer, Tom was racing IRONMAN 70.3 Musselman, when he suffered a heart attack as a result of a tear in his artery, Spontaneus Coronary Artery Dissection ( SCAD) on the run course, right in front of his wife Hilary. Tom survived to share his story, thanks to Hillary knowing CPR, along with a few other athletes running on the course that joined in to help. Today it is their mission to help educate other athletes and spectators on the life saving benefits of CPR, especially as Tom is an Emergency Medicine Physician.
During our conversation Tom shares the story of what he can recall and the detailed medical terminology and raritity of this condition from what he later learned happened, while Hillary shares what it was like watching and quiclky administering CPR and saving her husbands life! Tom offers insight on heart health, we talk about some scans and test you can do to get an inside look at your arteries and heart, and why everyone should know how to administer CPR.
