Elizabeth “Corky” Corkum, Running Coach, Entrepreneur, and Competitive Athlete On Running For Fun, Career, and Life

When musical theatre major, Elizabeth ” Corky” Corkum, turned to running as a way to stay in shape in the competitive world of performing, she had no idea it would power her through a “quarter life crisis,” fuel her for career success in an entirely new industry and transform her life forever.  Now, 21 Marathons and 20 Half Marathons later, she has a 3:03:21 Marathon PR a 1:20:07 Half Marathon PR, and has coached thousands of athletes helping them achieve PR’s or simply run for fun.  Coach Corky is one of NYC’s top running coaches with a proven personal and professional track record of success. She is an entrepreneur with a private coaching business, Coach Corky Runs and is a running coach at Precision Run, the performance-based indoor running program and treadmill studio co-founded and created by David Siik and Equinox.

Bit by the running bug in 2010, Corky has run every distance from 5Ks to Ultra Marathons. She has coached thousands of athletes over the years through her own coaching business as well as top coaching jobs at Mile High Run Club, Nike, JackRabbit Sports, Run SMART (with Jack Daniels), City Coach MultiSport and the City Harvest NYC Marathon Charity Team,. She has also taught running seminars internationally, and has been a contributor to Runner’s World Magazine and Women’s Health.

Beyond her impressive PR’s and coaching, Corky has amassed some serious credentials and certifications: She is an RRCA Certified Running Coach, USATF Level 1 Certified Coach, ISSA Certified Personal Trainer and Specialist in Sports Nutrition, Red Cross CPR/AED Adult and Pediatric Certified.

FueledByMOTM: How I Train For Triathlon + 3 Easy Strategies To Get Your Workouts Done

Getting to the gym, a spin class or outdoors for your long run can be a challenge with a busy work, family and social schedule. As a triathlete, I know this well.  FueledByMOTM is a new Marni on The Move weekly segment offering tips, advice, and answers to listener questions.  On this premiere episode, I share my strategies for fitting my workouts into my busy schedule, stay motivated during training, and set goals to achieve success.  Many of you have been asking me how I find the time to train for triathlon and how I stay inspired in my training and workout routine. This isn’t a new question, as my friends and family have asked me for decades!  While this segment is focused on triathlon, these tips and advice apply to any sports or fitness routine. Before I trained for triathlon, I was a runner, yoga practitioner, and fitness class junkie. The only way I ever got to the gym or studio is by approaching training the same way I approach running my business. Whether I am spearheading initiatives within my own company, The Salup Group, building a brand strategy, communications and content campaign for a client, or producing events and FIT+LOVE’s annual fitness festival, I set achievable goals, build a team, map out a plan of action, build it into my schedule and get it done.

Daphnie Yang, Creator of HIIT IT! On Having A Positive Mindset, Running, and Fitness

Empowered with a BFA in Dance from NYU in 2007, multiple International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA) Certifications in Personal Training, Pre and Post Natal Training, Marathon Coaching and Nutrition Counseling, Daphnie has motivated hundreds of people to reduce body fat, sculpt lean muscle mass, and run marathons, but most importantly, she has helped countless people achieve balance and wellness in their day to day lives. HIIT IT! classes are taught at Athleta Flatiron and Primary in NYC. LIVE from NYC: How To Adopt An Athletic Mindset For Life, Career, + Training with Andia Winslow, Andrew Kalley, Louis Sagar, and Murray Hidary

This was the first Marni on the Move LIVE panel which took place at world renowned athletic complex and NYC gym, Chelsea Piers Fitness.Panel guests include:Professional Athlete-Golfer and Runner, Andia Winslow, who has been building her career as a successful on-air personality and voice over talent over the past several years, Andrew Kalley, an winning Elite Athlete, triathlon coach and personal trainer at Chelsea Piers Fitness with his own portfolio of clients at Kalley Fitness, Louis Sager, the CEO of The Alchemist’s Kitchen , and Murray Hidary, piianist, entrepreneur, creator of MindTravel, a musical meditation and experience.

It truly was a magical evening. We were on the deck outside, overlooking the Hudson. The event began with the panel, where listeners got to experience first-hand,, what it was like to be part of the podcast with digital wireless headsets almost as if they were in the room where it happens, thanks to Murray Hidary of MindTravel. Following the panel, Chelsea Piers Fitness talented and popular yoga teacher, Danielle Prager led a vinyasa style yoga class to the music of MindTravel and Murray continued to play trugh savasana into the night.

While all of this sounds wonderful and amazing, the episode audio is a little rough at first. Like a true entrepreneur, I had a vision and took a big risk, my first time recording a live event at this venue and really set the barre high. We were outside, recording digitally, no wires, with some technical interference and signals and occasional helicopters in the background.  My audio engineers are terrific. But it’s not the same as being in the studio so I wanted to prepare you for a few glitches here and there. However, it’s a really inspiring and empowering conversation and can maybe plant some seeds for you as we move into the New Year!

Shaun Rose:New York City Night Life Impresario Turned Boxer For A Cause

On todays episode I sync up with NYC nightlife impresario + entrepreneur, Goldbar + Sweetwater Social Owner, Shaun Rose. On November 15, 2018, Shaun is embarking upon his first amateur boxing match and getting in shape for a cause that is close to his heart. He has raised over $45,000 in the past few months for Haymakers for Hope and the Lustgarten Foundation, both dedicated to raising awareness for cancer research and education. All along he has been training with Gotham Gym and getting in the shape of his life! Shaun and Marni talk about what inspired and motivated him to begin boxing and sign up for his first amateur fight, the challenges he has overcome in the process, the many benefits of training for his upcoming match, and his determination and passion for finding a cure for cancer. They also discuss his longtime career in nightlife, from promoter to owner, the current landscape of the industry, entrepreneurial lessons he has learned along the way, his passion for music and the examples he is setting for his two amazing and talented daughters Emma and Zoe.
